At the age of 16, I came to Australia as an exchange student. I went to a high school in a small country town in Victoria. I learned a lot about Australian culture and enjoyed every day of this time in my life. At 16, everything was exciting.
Afterwards, I returned to Sri Lanka to finish high school, but all I wanted was to come back to Australia. The excuse was university education—but the truth was, I just wanted to live here.
I studied at RMIT University in Melbourne and also completed a Diploma in Gemmology, thinking I might return to Sri Lanka to continue in the family business as a gem dealer.
Life had other plans. I married a local Australian girl I met and together we had two beautiful daughters. They made me the happiest man alive, and even today, the joy of fatherhood drives me through all difficulties in life. No other happiness even comes close.
Straight after university, I went into business. I never worked for anyone in a job. I tried various ventures, including running a nightclub in the heart of Melbourne for about seven years. The place was called Steps—and most party people of my generation in Melbourne knew it. We had internationally famous artists perform there. It was a lot of fun and a lot of easy money.
Around my 40s, I went through an extremely difficult marriage breakup. That period taught me the most important lessons of my life: pain, anger, depression, the love you have for your children, and—above all—how to manage it all and come out stronger and more positive. Experiencing both the extreme pleasures and the extreme pain of life has made me a more intelligent, resilient, empathetic, and kinder man.
Today, I am an entrepreneur with multinational businesses in recruitment and outsourcing — operating in Australia, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.
- CEO of Australian Workforce—a multi-million-dollar operation servicing clients across Australia.
- Founder of Staffing Agency NZ—servicing businesses throughout New Zealand.
- CEO of Global Staff Solutions—an outsourcing and bookkeeping company in Sri Lanka.
- Founder of Lanka Staff—one of Sri Lanka’s leading recruitment agencies.
From a determined university student to a thriving businessman, I have led multiple successful multinational companies. With humble beginnings in Australia at 16, I built my first ventures and transformed a small investment into a multi-million-dollar enterprise by the age of 30.
For the past five years, I’ve also focused on the BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) space as CEO of Global Staff Solutions in Sri Lanka — a dynamic company with 15 employees operating 24/7.
I also introduced the professional recruitment agency model to Sri Lanka through Lanka Staff, raising industry standards and expanding opportunities for businesses and workers alike.
